24-25 Team Previews: Marian Catholic

***High school coaches can continue to fill out the Season Preview Form to provide information on their teams. This is not required to be featured, but it does help provide context to put together the previews.

Marian Catholic

Outlook:

Following a 22-win season, Coach Romeli and the Spartans have a strong group back from the regional title team with even bigger expectations. Senior guard Zack Sharkey will be among the best scorers in the ESCC and has the type of game to carry a heavy load with the variety of ways that he can create offense. An underrated guard in the 2025 class, Sharkey has appeal at the D2 level with a seasoned skillset that should translate well. Two more starters return as well in Delen Davis and Terrell Morton, both who should provide stability and quickness at the guard spots.

6-foot-5 sophomore Landon Mays has shown promising signs and is expected to have a larger role in the frontcourt. He’s got good instincts as a shot blocker, rebounder, and finisher off of cuts. They got a nice addition is transfer TJ Garner, a big-time athlete with serious explosiveness and basket-attacking ability. Look for him to add another element as both a slasher and energy-giver on both ends. Don’t be surprised if Marian Catholic is cutting down more nets come playoff time.

Key Players:

Sr – Zack Sharkey (6’3 Guard)
Sr – Delan Davis (6’1 Guard)
Sr – Terrell Morton (6’1 Guard)
Jr – TJ Garner (6’2 Guard)
So – Landon Mays (6’5 Forward)

Prospect For College Coaches To Keep An Eye On:

Zack Sharkey (6’3 SG, 2025)

Sharkey has been a mainstay in the Spartan lineup for the past few years and has shown plenty of growth and consistent production. As a scorer, his mid-range game is up there with any guard in the area. He understands angles and gets off of the ground well on the move. His three-point shooting has become more of a weapon as well, which should lead to higher outputs this year. But looking to the next level, his one-on-one scoring plus the efficiency to get to his spots in two-to-three dribbles will be useful. Sharkey is also a competitive kid who rebounds very well at the guard spot, has developed as a playmaker, and fights on the defensive end. Scholarship-level upside.
