This was another week of monster performances across the state from players who are now in the swing of conference play for the majority of teams. Here are some of the players who stood out during the week.
Alex Stell (Junior Center, Waterloo)
What a week for the 6-foot-10 junior. He had two 20-plus point triple-doubles where he went into double-digits in rebounds and blocked shots. Stell was a force over the summer and looks like one of the emerging true bigs in the class. His face-up ability is an added skill that has shown promise as well.
Angelo Ciaravino (Senior Guard, Mount Carmel)
Ciaravino was a focal point in a big win for the Caravan over a talented De La Salle team in CCL play. He finished with 17 points and seven rebounds in that game, but his impact and energy showed across the board. The Northwestern commit also had 22 points, six rebounds, and three steals in a commanding win over Providence and another 15 points in the Team Rose shootout against Hillcrest. Ciaravino has led Carmel to a great start.
Connor May (Senior Guard/Forward, Palatine)
It was a busy week for May. He scored his 1,000th career point and also announced his commitment to a perennial D3 contender and elite academic school in WashU. He had games of 29 and 24 points during the week while leading Palatine to three wins. At 6-foot-7 with handle, shooting ability, and post game, May is a constant mismatch who should be an All-State selection this year.
Docker Tedeschi (Junior Forward, Benton)
Tedeschi is a modern stretch forward with shooting range, mobility, and defensive versatility that is going to appeal to a number of college coaches. He swatted 12 shots away in a game where he also scored 28 points and had six rebounds. If that wasn’t enough, Tedeschi came back and poured in another 28 points with 12 rebounds and 10 blocks for his first career triple-double.
Drelyn Jones (Senior Guard, Leyden)
Jones produces in so many ways for Leyden. A mainstay in the Leyden lineup, Jones has been lighting it up so far. He dropped 32 points in a win and delivered with 20 points, five rebounds, and six assists earlier in the week. Of the players available in the senior class, Jones is an intriguing, multi-faceted combo guard.
Ian Miletic (Junior Guard, Rolling Meadows)
A repeat player of the week already, Miletic continues to put up huge numbers and more importantly, has impacted winning. The 6-foot-7 guard had 32 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists early in the week and 18 points and 10 rebounds in an impressive win over a very good Prospect team. He continues to show well for the Mustangs.
Je’Shawn Stevenson (Senior Guard, Lindblom)
Another player who is being named player of the week for the second time this year, Stevenson has taken Chicago by storm with his ability to will Lindblom to wins while also helping magnify a good supporting cast. In a dominant showing yesterday, he had 34 points, five rebounds, and six steals after he had 19 points, four rebounds, and three steals earlier in the week. Stevenson has been nothing short of stellar so far.
Karson Thomas (Sophomore Guard, Lincoln-Way East)
Thomas erupted for 29 points in a battle against a Homewood Flossmoor team with multiple highly regarded perimeter players. His level of explosiveness and comfort scoring from the mid-range and off the catch is notable. Thomas also contributed 16 points later in the week against Lindblom. The sophomore looks capable of taking a leading role for LWE and has some serious long-term upside.
Luca Carbonaro (Junior Guard, Wheaton Warrenville South)
WWS lost a lot of talent in that 2023 class, leaving Carbonaro as one of the more experienced returners. A few weeks in, he has ratcheted up his aggressiveness and thrived as a primary option. With games of 32 and 26 points respectively, he was one of the leading scorers across the state over the week. Also a gifted passer and ball-handler, Carbonaro is going to be a force.
Stefan Cicic (Senior Center, Riverside Brookfield)
The 2024 class has a number of dominant big man, but from a size perspective, the 7-foot Cicic may take the mantle. He protects the rim, rebounds at a high volume, and has a nice combination of low post power and finesse. He had a 19-point game where he snatched 13 rebounds and another 19-point showing yesterday where he had 10 rebounds and five assists against heavy defensive attention. Cicic is one of the remaining Division-1 level bigs available.
