24-25 Team Previews: Bolingbrook

***High school coaches can continue to fill out the Season Preview Form to provide information on their teams. This is not required to be featured, but it does help provide context to put together the previews.

Bolingbrook

Outlook:

Bolingbrook has three starters back to lead a group that made it to a sectional final last year. Davion Thompson is one of the premier guards in the entire country in the 2027 class and was electric as a freshman. He has gotten stronger and more assertive since last season and should be a repeat All-State selection. Valparaiso commit JT Pettigrew, also an All-State pick, had a breakout junior year where he showed the ability to control games as a rebounder, rim protector, and multi-purpose offensive threat. He will be able to play more at the forward spots this year. I love how junior point guard Trey Brost controls pace and puts pressure on opposing ball-handlers defensively. After having a good summer with Fundamental U, he should continue on the trajectory of being a potential scholarship-level floor general. Expect an uptick in his aggressiveness scoring the ball.

I mentioned Pettigrew playing more at the forward spots and a large part of that is the addition of 6-foot-9 transfer Jayden Madden. While he’s still putting all of the tools together, he runs the floor hard, affects shots in his area, and is a vertical outlet around the rim offensively. College coaches will be keeping an eye on the development of the high-upside big man. Highly regarded freshman Brady Pettigrew looks to make a large impact early on with the physicality, athleticism, and skill to be a difference maker in varsity games. He’ll add support in the backcourt and on the wing, along with Kendall Cutler, a slashing wing who can space the floor, junior Travis Marks, and seniors Vee Edwards and Caleb Harris. The star power is there but you can also still expect the rugged, in-your-face defense that Coach Brost’s teams have been known for throughout the years.

Key Players:

Sr – JT Pettigrew (6’7 Forward)
So – Davion Thompson (6’3 Guard)
Jr – Trey Brost (6’0 Guard)
Fr – Brady Pettigrew (6’3 Guard)
Jr – Jayden Madden (6’9 Center)
Sr – Kendall Cutler (6’4 Guard)
Jr – Travis Marks (6’1 Guard)
Sr – Vee Edwards (6’0 Guard)
Sr – Caleb Harris (6’3 Guard)

Prospect For College Coaches To Keep An Eye On:

JT Pettigrew (6’7 SF/PF, 2025) – Valparaiso Commit

Pettigrew carried momentum from a big junior year into the AAU scene where his versatility jumped out to multiple Division 1 programs. Now a leader on the team, Pettigrew’s high motor will be a great example the younger players in the program. His three-point shooting has improved, and he’s also taken some steps as a ball-handler to attack from the wing, which should serve him this year and beyond.

Davion Thompson (6’3 PG/SG, 2027)

I’m not sure the last time I’ve seen an underclassman display the type of talent, calm demeanor, and competitive fire at the same time. The ultra-skilled lefty is a maestro in ball screens, has deep three-point range, and is going to show a big leap in his athleticism and contact finishing this season. When big plays need to be made, he has shown the confidence to step up and be that go-to option in crucial moments. Thompson’s maturity and all-around game are undeniable, even among national evaluators.

Trey Brost (6’0 PG, 2026)

Brost played the PG role well all last season, finding open shots for teammates, getting things settled, and making life hard on opposing guards. He’s also a capable and effective shooter who changes speeds well with the ball and has a good finishing package inside with floaters and scoops. Brost already holds a number of offers across levels.

Jayden Madden (6’9 C, 2026)

It only takes a few possessions of watching Madden to see where the intrigue lies down the line. Incredibly mobile and bouncy at 6-foot-9, Madden is a standout rim protector who is a legitimate lob/dunker’s spot threat. There are also promising signs with his mechanics, shooting range, and comfort putting it on the floor in space. He’s got Division 1 upside.

Brady Pettigrew (6’3 PG/SG, 2028)

Most college coaches aren’t looking at freshmen these days, but Pettigrew has a strong frame and a knack for finding ways to score at the rim, with his pull-up, or from beyond the three-point line.

Kendall Cutler (6’4 SG, 2025)

A player who will probably receive looks from multiple D3 and JUCO programs, Cutler has length, shooting ability, and some quick-twitch speed. He will be able to thrive as a lane-runner and spacer for this team, which will highlight his strengths for college coaches looking at the wing spot.
