24-25 Team Previews: Hoffman States

***High school coaches can continue to fill out the Season Preview Form to provide information on their teams. This is not required to be featured, but it does help provide context to put together the previews.

Hoffman Estates

Outlook:

Hoffman brings back 80 percent of their scoring from last year and the type of guard depth that you look for in a steady, veteran team. Minnesota football recruit Nate Cleveland was an all-area selection last year and provides physicality and toughness as a bigger guard. He will be rejoined in the backcourt by scoring guard Daiquan Daniels (15 ppg) who finds different ways to score in bunches. Expect a ton of growth from junior guard Torey Baskin (11 ppg), who is a highly skilled creator capable of taking over games with his speed and shot making. He starred in a sixth man role last year but could emerge as one of the premier guards in the area this year.

Hoffman got a huge addition in Joey Hernandez, a transfer from St. Viator. He is an elite on-ball defender who will be able to get to his spots and make others better. Hernandez has winning DNA and should have a large impact on this team. Returning junior Chris Mobley, who saw some time as a sophomore, adds to the loaded backcourt. Though they don’t have a lot of traditional size, the strength and speed of the guards will make for a fun team to track throughout the year.

Key Players:

Sr – Nate Cleveland (6’3 Guard)

Sr – Daiquan Daniels (6’1 Guard)

Jr – Torey Baskin (6’1 Guard)

Sr – Joey Hernandez (5’10 Guard)

Jr – Chris Mobley (5’10 Guard)

Prospect For College Coaches To Keep An Eye On:

Daiquan Daniels (6’1 SG, 2025)

Daniels is a scoring dynamo who has that natural instinct for finding ways to put points on the board. As a shooter, he put up impressive numbers as a junior with decent volume, able to shoot from deep off of the dribble or knock down mid-range looks. Even at 6-foot-1, Daniels is able to use his long arms to be a disruptor on the defensive end, also showing plus athleticism to recover and make things happen in transition. He should have a big senior year.

Joey Hernandez (5’10 PG, 2025)

Top-notch defenders have value at the next level. Hernandez, who has three years of varsity experience under his belt, makes positive plays as a passer, dribble penetrator, and rebounder on a consistent basis. He’s also a capable perimeter shooter who plays with a chip on his shoulder. Expect him to be one of the transfers who takes little time acclimating, fitting in perfectly with the guard-heavy, up-tempo system.

Torey Baskin (6’1 PG/SG, 2026)

Baskin showed some great flashes as a sophomore with how he handled the ball and got the rim consistently. His speed separates him, but he also has the body control and touch to make tough shots in traffic or gather himself for mid-range looks. There is a lot to like about the way that he can apply ball pressure and turn other guards on the defensive end. I’d look for a big leap for Baskin this year.
