2026 Year-End Awards: All-Defense/All-Energy Teams & Coach of Year/Sixth Man Of Year

Coach of The Year: Gene Heidkamp (Benet)

Benet put together a dominant season overall, despite losing some key pieces from their state championship team last year. While integrating a few new pieces, like junior Perry Tchiegne and Australian transfer Ethan MacDermott, the Redwings maintained the level of movement, defensive excellence, and discipline that has made them a favorite to watch under Heidkamp. It was more of the same as Benet gained national notoriety with their play this season.

Honorable Mentions

Abe Zeller (Morton). Brandin Brown (Homewood Flossmoor), Brian Hynes (Marist), Chris Pickett (Kankakee), Darrin Laye (Marshall), Eric Millstone (Palatine), Ernie Colombe (Kaneland), Lee Bennett (Centralia), Mark Chambers (East St. Louis), Michael Oliver (Curie), Mike Brown (Fremd), Mike Dunn (York), Terise Bryson (Decatur MacArthur), Todd Sutton (Neuqua Valley), Tom Kleinschmidt (DePaul Prep)

Sixth Man Of The Year: Karson Thomas (Sr. – Marist)

Thomas, a transfer last year at Marist, had several scholarship-level suitors and was fresh off a big-time scoring season. On the eventual state champions, he took pride in being instant offense and being an asset with his strength and athleticism off of the bench for stretches for the Redhawks.
