Standouts That We Saw At The Riverside Brookfield Live Event: Part 5

We were out at Riverside Brookfield all weekend for a loaded, well-run event during June’s first live period. Of the games that we saw, here are some of the standouts. We are releasing over 100 evaluations from the weekend, but will space them out over a few different posts to avoid too much scrolling.

Dawson Charles | 6’2 SG | St. Viator | 2027

Charles returned to action looking healthy and immediately reminded coaches of his athletic ability and scoring instincts. He consistently attacked the basket, elevated over defenders, and showed the ability to make difficult shots from multiple areas of the floor. Charles filled it up all weekend for a young Viator squad that he will lead.

His athleticism allows him to project well on the defensive end, while his slashing ability gives him a strong offensive foundation. There were several times where he just blew by defenders in the open court and was the first one in a passing lane for a steal. As he continues to regain rhythm following time away, his upside remains evident.

Cashius Collins | 6’5 PF | Warren | 2027

Collins brought energy and athleticism to the frontcourt throughout the event. He consistently played above the rim and established himself as a dangerous lob threat around the basket. His ability to finish plays vertically created problems for opposing defenses.

He also played with a high motor and showed touch on difficult finishes, including multiple impressive two-foot reverse layups around the rim. His athletic profile and activity level allowed him to impact the game in several ways.

Tayte Cardova | 6’1 PG | Warren | 2027

Cardova did an excellent job handling primary ball-handling responsibilities throughout the game. He consistently created advantages off the dribble and demonstrated strong driving angles when attacking the basket. His ability to stay on line despite defensive contact stood out.

He played with confidence and composure while organizing the offense and creating opportunities for teammates. As his role continues to expand, he appears poised for increased responsibility moving forward.

Kyler Payne | 6’7 PF | Waubonsie Valley | 2028

Payne served as a focal point of the offense and consistently demonstrated a mature understanding of how to impact the game from the frontcourt. He was comfortable facilitating through handoffs, screening actions, and offensive reads, showing strong feel for a player his size. His ability to handle pressure and make smart decisions helped keep the offense flowing.

Around the basket, Payne embraced physicality and used a variety of post moves to score efficiently. Defensively, he controlled space in the paint, rebounded effectively, and provided a strong interior presence. His combination of size, strength, and basketball IQ continues to stand out.

Jordan Weeks | 6’8 C | West Aurora | 2027

Weeks brought size and physicality to the paint on both ends of the floor. He controlled space around the basket, rebounded effectively, and provided a consistent interior presence. He also showed the ability to step out and stretch the floor in spots.

His combination of size, strength, and touch gives him a reliable foundation as a frontcourt player. He impacted the game through rebounding, interior defense, and positional versatility. His overall skill set continues to translate in multiple areas.

Travis Brown | 6’0 PG | West Aurora | 2027

Brown delivered one of the more complete point guard performances of the weekend. He controlled tempo, made strong decisions, and consistently put teammates in position to succeed. He also showed the ability to score at all three levels while maintaining efficiency and control. The lanky guard continuously hit tough pull-ups after generating space with a variety of moves in space. He was getting guys off balance in ball screen actions and seemed to always have a plan to get to the paint.

He played with excellent pace and demonstrated strong basketball IQ to pick apart the help side defense. Both calm and determined at the same time, Brown didn’t let his foot off of the gas. When they needed a shot to win the game, he delivered with a movement three. He impacted the game as a defensive pest as well, making other guards uncomfortable. Brown picked up an offer during the weekend and should continue being a popular lead guard name in recruiting circles.

Hayden Schroeder | 6’8” PF | Wheaton Academy | 2027

Schroeder continues to solidify his status as one of the premier frontcourt prospects in Illinois. The 6’8” forward consistently impacted the game with a polished interior skill set and a strong understanding of how to play through the post. His footwork on the block stood out throughout the event, as he utilized a variety of counters and finishes to create quality scoring opportunities. He consistently established deep position, caught the ball cleanly, and converted around the basket with soft touch and excellent body control.

Schroeder showcased the versatility that makes him such a difficult matchup. He possesses reliable hands, touch on short push shots, and does an excellent job rim-running for easy baskets in transition. He was also highly productive on the glass, consistently tracking down rebounds and controlling the paint on both ends. As a passer, Schroeder demonstrated the ability to facilitate offense and showed enough ball-handling skill to operate comfortably in dribble handoff actions. He remains one of the top big men in the state regardless of class.

Brooks Franks | 6’4 PG | Wheaton Warrenville South | 2029

Franks continued to impress with his blend of size, toughness, and versatility. He knocked down a perimeter three, attacked the rim with strength, and consistently made winning plays throughout the game. His physical profile is highly advanced for a player in the 2029 class.

In their zone, Franks competed at a high level and showed the agility and footwork necessary to guard multiple positions. He was battling on the block against serious size while sliding his feet on corner closeouts. Also a promising player on the baseball field, Franks has shown the type of well-rounded athleticism, poise, and toughness that tends to travel.

AJ Rogers | 6’4 PG/SG | Wheaton Warrenville South | 2028

Rogers used his strength and physicality to consistently create offensive advantages. He finished well around the basket, utilized pivots effectively in traffic, and displayed a polished interior scoring package for a guard. His ability to play through contact stood out throughout the game.

He also shot the ball well from the perimeter and consistently made sound decisions with the basketball. After a strong sophomore year for WWS, he should emerge as one of the area’s most reliable juniors.

David Showman | 6’3 SG | Wheaton Warrenville South | 2027

Showman showcased a strong perimeter scoring package and consistently found ways to put points on the board. The 6-foot-3 guard is a gifted shot-maker who can stretch defenses well beyond the three-point line. His shooting range immediately stood out, as he confidently knocked down perimeter shots and remained a threat whenever he touched the ball on the outside.

While his shooting is a major strength, Showman also demonstrated the ability to attack off the dribble and create offense when defenders closed out aggressively. He handled physical play well and never appeared bothered by contact, maintaining his composure while continuing to get to his spots. In addition to his scoring ability, he contributed on the glass by competing for rebounds and willingly mixing it up in traffic. Showman will be an attractive target for a number of strong Division III programs.

Caden Crudup | 6’6 SF | Whitney Young | 2027

Crudup brought toughness, physicality, and effort to every possession. He consistently impacted the game on the glass, using his strength to secure rebounds and create extra opportunities for his team. His willingness to embrace contact and battle in traffic stood out throughout the game. Crudup also showed some playmaking ability for the Dolphins.

Crudup finished well through contact and consistently made winning plays. He competed with purpose and embraced doing the dirty work that often goes unnoticed. His motor and willingness to contribute in multiple ways make him a valuable piece on both ends of the floor.

Ed Williams IV | 5’10 PG | Whitney Young | 2027

Williams is a strong, physical guard who takes tremendous pride in the defensive end of the floor. He embraced difficult assignments and did an impressive job defending opposing top scorers throughout the event. His ability to stay connected, pressure the ball, and compete physically helped make him a disruptive presence.

Williams was most effective attacking downhill and collapsing defenses. He consistently put pressure on the paint and showed good vision by finding open teammates when help defenders rotated. His toughness, defensive intensity, and willingness to create for others stood out throughout the game.

Joseph Lubbe | 6’4 SG | York | 2027

Lubbe was one of the true deadeye shooters and scorers we saw this weekend. He possesses a pure shooting stroke, a quick release, and the confidence to fire from deep range whenever opportunities arise. He consistently knocked down shots both off movement and in catch-and-shoot situations.

Lubbe is a gritty kid who moves well and has a high basketball IQ. He attacked the basket when defenders overplayed his jumper, scored effectively off cuts, and consistently made productive plays throughout the event. His feel and shot making ability opened a lot of eyes.

Joey Jakstys | 6’7” PF | Yorkville | 2028

Jakstys continues to look like one of the highest-upside forwards in the 2028 class. The rangy, 6-foot-7 forward consistently impacted the game on both ends of the floor, showcasing a rare blend of size, fluidity, and skill. His timing as a shot blocker stood out throughout the day. He gets off the floor quickly, rotates well as a help-side defender, and routinely altered shots around the basket with his length and instincts.

A Swiss-Army knife on offense, Jakstys displayed the versatility that college programs covet in modern forwards. He comfortably stepped out to knock down perimeter shots, handled the ball in space, and even initiated transition after securing rebounds. His fluid movement and smooth shooting stroke allow him to play both inside and out, creating matchup problems for opposing defenses. Jakstys looks every bit the part of a future Division I forward and is the best long-term four man in the class in my opinion.

Braydon Porter | 6’5” SG | Yorkville | 2028

Porter continues to emerge as another highly promising prospect within Yorkville’s talented 2028 group. The athletic wing has clearly added strength to his frame, and that added physicality has translated well to both ends of the floor. His explosiveness immediately jumps out, particularly in transition where he is a constant threat to finish above the rim. Few players in attendance matched his ability to change a game with his athleticism in the open floor.

Beyond the athletic tools, Porter showed noticeable development in his overall offensive game. He displayed an improved handle, looked more comfortable creating off the dribble, and showcased growth with his middle game. Around the basket, his bounce allows him to finish plays that many players just can’t make, whether through dunks or difficult finishes above the rim. Porter also flashed significant upside as a wing stopper, using his athleticism and improved strength to impact passing lanes and affect ball handlers. Another Division 1 2028 to track at Yorkville.
