In our second to last players of the week release, there were a ton of huge individual showings in big moments across the state. Here are the week 12 players of the week.
Anton Strelnikov (Junior Center, Lake Zurich)
Lake Zurich reached the 20-win mark for the first time since 2018 and Strelnikov is a huge reason why. The highlight of his week was a 30-point, 10-rebound outing in a critical win to gain momentum into the last week of the season. Strelnikov’s low-post game is a luxury that shouldn’t be taken for granted.
Carlos Harris (Senior Guard, Curie)
Harris was a standout once again for Curie as they took the city playoff championship over a stacked Kenwood team. His 20 points in the final were key in a bruising game. The UIC commit is a cool and collected catalyst for the Condors, who have the pieces to make it downstate.
Chris Kirkpatrick (Sophomore Guard, New Tier)
Despite a loss to Glenbrook South, Kirkpatrick had one of the best performances of the week with a super-efficient 32 points. It was a season-high for the-foot-3 point guard who has flashed a lot of talent in his first varsity season. He also scored 13 points in a blowout win against Glenbrook North.
Jackson Hupp (Junior Forward, Hersey)
Hupp went over 1,000 career points in a masterful 40-point performance for Hersey. The versatile, strong, inside-out forward joined the exclusive club before his third season on varsity ends. It continues to look like Hupp’s rise from a recruiting standpoint is just a matter of time.
Jordan Brooks (Senior Guard, West Aurora)
The West Aurora guard poured in a career high with 35 points early in the week. At 6-foot-3, his scoring ability on and off of the ball has been of value for a perimeter-heavy group. He is another unsigned senior who does a lot of things on both ends of the floor that should translate.
Nathan Scearce (Senior Guard, Bartlett)
Scearce has been on the area’s most complete scorers this year. He had games of 34 and 27 this week and has been comfortable over 20 points for a majority of the season. While shooting is his weapon of choice, the improved strength and physicality has allowed him to score more around the rim and on putbacks. He will be an all-area player this year.
Nick Taylor (Senior Forward, Glenbrook South)
Another huge week for the Winona State commit. Taylor was critical in three wins, scoring 19 points against a tough New Trier team, 14 points with 12 rebounds in a battle with Evanston, and 32 points in a commanding win over Carmel. He looks to lead the Titans deep into the playoffs with his energy and impact on both ends.
Rakim Chaney (Senior Guard, Rockford Auburn)
Chaney broke the single-game scoring record at Auburn, surpassing Fred Van Vleet’s mark, with 41 points on senior night. A dynamic scorer for one of the top teams in Rockford, Chaney also is over 1,000 career points. He is still uncommitted and would be a nice late addition.
Ryan Tucker (Senior Guard, Byron)
Tucker had quite the week for a Byron team who is surging. He not only broke the all-time scoring record, but also broke the career three-point mark while having games of 32 and 25 while also winning the Big Northern. Tucker is a lanky two-guard who can shoot the lights out and will continue to intrigue college coaches.
Zavier Fitch (Senior Forward, Brother Rice)
Fitch has put together one of the best seasons of any of the forwards in the CCL and is among the top rebounders in the area. He had 19 points on Friday and 23 points with 17 boards yesterday. Fitch should be to be an all-CCL selection and hot target for college coaches still looking for some frontcourt assistance.
