24-25 Team Previews: Montini

Montini

Outlook:

Some productive seniors graduated for a program that has won three regionals in a row, but Coach DeMong and his staff are optimistic about the current senior group and the upside of the juniors. The backcourt should have plenty of ball-handling and toughness with Jack Barrett, Dillon Bagley and Maxwell Bell all back with multiple years under their belts. Senior leadership at the guard spot will be particularly important in a rugged Chicago Catholic League.

Seniors Drew Church and Jake Maquet saw good time as juniors and provide rebounding and energy on the inside. The frontcourt will be bolstered by 6-foot-6 junior Colt Ashton, a promising big, and Henry Harold. Keep an eye on Robert Sansone, a creative shot maker who was a standout on the sophomore team last year. Coach DeMong seems to find a way to get the group to play their best basketball as the year progresses and they have the pieces to go for their fourth 2A regional in a row.

Key Players:

Sr – Dillon Bagley (6’1 Guard)

Sr – Jack Barrett (6’0 Guard)

Sr – Maxwell Bell (6’0 Guard)

Jr – Robert Sansone (6’0 Guard)

Jr – Colt Ashton (6’6 Forward/Center)

Prospect For College Coaches To Keep An Eye On:

Dillon Bagley (6’0 PG, 2025)

Entering his third year up on varsity, Bagley has attracted more college interest over the last few months with his IQ, passing ability, and disruptive defense. He’s got a great sense of timing and pursuit both on and off of the ball and has the quick hands to make offensive players uncomfortable. Also a solid spot-up shooter and crafty dribble penetrator, high-academic D3 programs should continue checking in on Bagley.
