Team Preview: Lake Park
The Lancers lost a lot in the 2024 graduating class and spent last season gaining some valuable experience with a young team. The good news is that they return six seniors, a few talented underclassmen, and one of the best returning duos in the DuKane in Freddy Battaglia (12 ppg) and Luca Stella (7 ppg). Both have excellent footwork and solid frames to score at the rim with range past the three-point arc. Battaglia was an all-conference selection last year after showing the type of motor, interior scoring, and slashing ability that should appeal to a slew of Division 3 coaches. He has more of a face-up game than he gets credit for and is a high-level defender and rebounder. Stella’s scoring totals don’t tell the full story of the impact he brings as a 6-foot-4 ball-handler with range out to the volleyball line and a high IQ to make plays for others. He will also be a coveted college recruit.
I’m very high on 6-foot-7 sophomore Brennan Shannon, an aggressive, athletic forward who shoots it well and plays with a mean streak in the paint. Also a big-time volleyball player, Shannon has a 35-inch vertical that aids him as a finisher, rebounder, and shot blocker (where he led the team last year). Proviso West transfer Elijah Booth is expected to take a step forward and young guards Peyton Woods and Christian Burge. Woods will give them quality on-ball defense and playmaking, while Burge, only a freshman, has a smooth game that should translate well. I’d expect this team to look closer to the Lancer groups who made runs a few years ago versus last season.
Prospects To Watch:
2026 Freddy Battaglia (6’4)
2026 Luca Stella (6’4)
2028 Brennan Shannon (6’7)
2026 Elijah Booth (6’0)
2029 Christian Burge (5’10)
