Glenbard West
Outlook:
After featuring a number of juniors last year, the Hilltoppers return a good blend of experience and production for a team that has the pieces to challenge for the top of the West Suburban. Junior guard TJ Williams was an all-conference selection last year and has the chance to take another big jump as his skillet has continued to refine. His explosiveness and activity defensively was notable as a sophomore, but his shooting has made noticeable strides since last winter. Look for Northwestern football commit Mike O’Connell to be even more of a handful for opposing bigs inside. The 6-foot-7 big man looked good in June and has soft touch to complement a big frame on the block.
Three-year forward Dom Seaney is another rock solid defender who excels as a cutter and rebounder. He’ll attract high-academic D3 interest. They added a huge transfer addition in Josh Abushanab, who has impressed with his leadership qualities, playmaking, rebounding, and defense. Only a junior, he’s just scratching the surface of how good he could be with time. They will get some added boost in the frontcourt from springy senior forward Logan Glover, who was impactful with his minutes a year ago. He adds a different element with his vertical athleticism and motor. Fellow seniors Drew Gacek (6-foot-5) and Bryce Huff (6-foot-3) should provide floor spacing throughout the year. Both have the ability to catch fire quickly.
They have one of the more seasoned teams in the area after only losing a few rotation pieces. If they can stay connected and receive consistent guard play, there’s a good amount of upside in Glen Ellyn.
Key Players:
Sr – Mike O’Connell (6’7 C)
Jr – TJ Williams (6’3 G)
Jr – Josh Abushanab (6’5 G/F)
Sr – Bryce Huff (6’3 G/F)
Sr – Drew Gacek (6’5 G/F)
Sr – Logan Glover (6’5 F)
Sr – Dominick Seaney (6’5 F)
Prospect For College Coaches To Keep An Eye On:
TJ Williams (6’3 SG, 2026)
Williams possesses the length, athleticism, and downhill scoring that you look for in a college two-guard. His off-ball instincts defensively to jump passing lanes and get tips are ideal. Now in a larger role, it will be good to see him continue to progress as a shutdown on-ball defender and reliable half court decision maker and scorer against defenses that will be loading up. I’ve liked the improvements in his patience and perimeter shot making over the last six months. Serious Division 1 upside when he plays with pace.
Josh Abushanab (6’5 SF, 2026)
Maybe the most impactful transfer in the West Suburban, Abushanab is a jack-of-all-trades type of wing. He can handle it a bit, sees the floor well, and is a plus rebounder and wing defender. Cutting, slashing, and lane-running alone should get him six to eight points a night. But as he progresses from the outside, his potential will gradually creep towards realization.
